We are in the process of restructuring & hope to reopen soon

Hanford, CA (January 23, 2025) – The Kings SPCA, a registered 501(c)3, announces with great regret that it will be closing its shelter facility located in the Hanford Mall as of February 28, 2025. This difficult decision has been made due to a lack of funding, which has made it impossible to sustain shelter operations.

During this transition period, Kings SPCA will focus on finding safe and loving placements for all animals currently in its care. The organization is committed to ensuring the well-being of every animal as it works with rescue partners, adopters, and other organizations. Additionally, all employees will retain their positions throughout this transition as arrangements are made for the animals and the equipment within the facility.

To support this effort, Kings SPCA will host a series of online auctions on its Facebook page to liquidate assets. Proceeds from these auctions will go towards the continued care and placement of the animals and will help ensure a smoother transition for the staff.

“We are facing an overwhelming number of owner surrenders and animal abandonment, combined with a significant decline in financial support,” says Timarie Hansen, Board of Directors VP. “In these challenging economic times, people can only give so much. Unfortunately, we are not alone; other organizations in the county are experiencing the same struggles. The rescue community has suffered significantly since COVID, and it may take years to recover.”

Despite the closure, Kings SPCA remains hopeful about the future. The organization will continue to seek grants and donations with the goal of reopening a shelter facility in the future. Kings SPCA is deeply grateful for the support of the community and encourages anyone who wishes to help to consider donating or volunteering during this transition period.

Resources
